Privacy Policy
Rockville Updates ("we," "us," "the Site") is a local news and public-records aggregator for the Vernon/Rockville, Connecticut area. This policy explains what limited information we handle when you visit.
Information we collect
- No accounts, no sign-in. We do not ask for your name, email, or password to read the Site.
- Anonymous local storage. To let you react to items and vote in polls without an account, your browser stores a random, anonymous identifier and your own like/reaction/vote choices in localStorage. This stays on your device and is not personally identifying.
- Standard server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) automatically processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and pages requested, to deliver the Site and protect against abuse.
- Messages you send us. If you email us (e.g., corrections or advertising), we receive whatever you include in that message.
Cookies & similar technologies
We use browser localStorage for the features above. We do not use tracking cookies to build advertising profiles. Any future analytics or ad tools would be disclosed here first.
Third-party services
- Cloudflare hosts and serves the Site (and processes server logs as described above).
- OpenStreetMap / Leaflet provide the map on our homepage; loading map tiles sends your IP address to those tile servers, as with any embedded map.
- Advertisers. If we display an ad, clicking it takes you to the advertiser's own site, which has its own privacy practices we don't control.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't require or knowingly collect information from children. The Site is intended for a general adult audience interested in local news.
Your choices
You can clear the Site's localStorage at any time through your browser settings, which removes your anonymous id and saved reactions/votes. You can browse without reacting or voting if you prefer.
Content about individuals
The Site reports on public court records and published local news, which may name individuals. If information about you is inaccurate or you have a correction or removal request, contact us at corrections@rockvilleupdates.com and we will review it promptly.
Changes
We may update this policy; the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly.
